How can we help you?

1. Structural Inspections

We can conduct Full or Specific Structural Inspections for properties whether you are a prospective buyer, existing homeowner, landlords, etc.. We can investigate common structural defects due to ground movement (subsidence or ground upheaval). Ground movement is one of the most common causes of structural defects. Root tree damage, drainage problems, adjacent construction (extensions, loft conversion, construction works at your neighbour), thermal effects, poor workmanship, etc.. are other causes of structural defects at domestic and commercial properties.

2. Structural Monitoring of Properties

Properties suffering from ground movement such as subsidence and/or ground upheaval may require monitoring for a period of time as per the British Research Establishment guidelines. We can prescribe a plan for monitoring your property which is bespoke for your property.

3. Certificate of Structural Adequacy (CSA)

We offer independent third party certification for properties which suffered from ground movement and structural defects. A Certificate of Structural Adequacy compliant to the Building Safety Act can be provided to you if the structural repairs and remedial works are of the required standard.

4. Damp Inspections

Properties often suffer from damp issues such as mould and mildew which impacts the occupants’ health and wellbeing. Damage due to water leak or plumbing issue such as timber rot could be assessed. Thermographic inspections will assess defective window installation and existing structural defects could impact energy efficiency.

5. Thermographic Inspections

Thermographic inspections will assess defective window and door installations, existing structural defects, other fittings, alterations, etc.. which could impact energy efficiency. The state of art technology such as  thermal imaging cameras are utilised to determine heat losses and thermal irregularities due to thermal bridging, penetrating damp, faulty insulation, etc..

6. Compliance and Verification

Properties often suffer from structural defects and issues which could be in violation of Building Regulations and CDM 2015. This has the potential to delay the sale of a property and exchanging contracts. If the property is a new build or undergoing refurbishment suffering from non-compliance, then the completion of the construction and approval by building control and relevant authorities may be denied or delayed. We are experienced in  guiding our clients to prevent any potential issues in the future and obtaining the required approvals.

7. Design and Calculations

We can conduct standard and bespoke designs for domestic and commercial properties. Extensions, loft conversions, or a simple steel beam design for replacing a load bearing wall. We are experienced to provide designs for steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures.

8. Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Advanced Structural Analysis using FEA is often used for structures requiring a detailed level of design and analysis to evaluate failure modes, deformation, and response to different loading conditions . It is s useful tool where an exact solution is not available or covered by design codes. It is often used for bespoke structures in specialised areas like Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Defence, Marine, and Power sectors of the industry.

9. Expert Witness and Independent Third Party Consultation

We can offer our independent impartial professional judgement on disputes involving properties which have suffered structural damage and defects due to negligent advice by a professional. Also, we can assist in evaluating the quality of build and structural repairs in the event you wish to seek an independent advice. This could be due to faults in construction and incorrect repairs conducted by a building contractor. We can provide our own independent and impartial advice to assist in resolving the structural issues at your property.

10. Research and Development (R&D)

We have expertise and background in R&D in Civil/Structural Engineering. We are capable of providing technical advice and step by step plan from scratch for a new engineering product to be developed in the market. Also, we can assist manufacturers or innovators looking to modify their existing products to meet the needs and challenges of the rapidly changing needs of the construction industry.
